French food seems to be back. But this new wave is far removed from the escargot and dauphinoise potato of old.
Here are some of my favourites, right here in London.
Le Gavroche – Le Gavroche
Michel Roux Jnr’s three Michelin starred restaurant is one of the capital’s favourites and has real history. The food has obvious outstanding qualities but this is a restaurant built on service. Frenchie Covent Garden – www.frenchiecoventgarden.com/
Parisian Bistro Frenchie brings the taste of France to Covent Garden with simple, yet generous, sharing dishes . Also offer bespoke private dining and parties. One to watch.
Blanchette – http://www.blanchettelondon.co.uk/

Sardine’s identity is based round the cooking of southern France over a wood fire. A small but perfectly formed menu is complimented by a measured wine list.
Another French bistro, this time in Hoxton, a small but sumptuous menu brings a little bit of France to Hackney. Duck Confit, Gratin Dauphinois, Sweet Onion Purée the real pick of the menu.
Big Fernand – www.bigfernand.co.uk/

Enjoy and eat sensibly J
